During our final day on retreat in Batam, while many colleagues opted for last-minute shopping, I chose a different path — cycling on the island.
Originally, I intended to cycle around Batam Island alone. However, once my plan was shared, a few colleagues expressed interest in joining me.
Consequently, we booked a cycling package with a local operator.
We managed to cycle 70km in around 5 hours, completing a route that took us across the island’s renowned six bridges.
Here are my #cycling tips for beginners :
1. Stopping safely
• Apply both brakes evenly to halt smoothly.
• Choose safe, visible spots to stop.
2. Consistent pedaling
• Maintain a comfortable, steady cadence.
• Understand and utilize your gears appropriately.
3. Straight-Line riding:
• Focus your gaze on your destination, not obstacles.
4. Refueling on long rides:
• Ensure regular hydration, and use electrolyte drinks when necessary.
• Carry energy-boosting snacks, and eat a balanced meal on the or even banana on the ride.
Happy cycling!
