In the past, my communication approach with office colleagues hashtag#ktp involved lengthy emails and WhatsApp messages. Exactly like the Energizer bunny slogan “keep going and going”
However …
This method proved ineffective for several reasons:
My team found it challenging to grasp the essence of my messages, leading to misunderstandings most of time.
Due to the complexity and length of the messages, my colleagues sometimes had to guess the intended message, which isn’t ideal for clear communication.
Recently I noticed a worrying trend where junior team members were less likely to engage with these long-form hashtag#communications, often not reading or responding to them.
I learn my lesson well after many years of “mishaps”.
Most of us don’t have much time and prefer short, clear messages. Long messages can be hard to understand and take too much time to read, especially when we’re busy.
Given our increasing phone usage, short messages are easier to read. Long texts are overwhelming on small screens, and with daily information overload, we avoid content that’s hard to quickly digest.
Now I prefer old school calling or even audio message like aunty and uncle in the market.
