In the early stages of my business, when interviewing new graduates and interns, I often went beyond the standard inquiries about skills and education.
Instead, I focused on three (3) simple yet revealing questions.
Though I’ve stepped back from personally conducting interviews, I continue to ask my hashtag#hr manager to use the same three (3) questions for candidates.
These questions, which I found invaluable in my earlier days of interviewing, provide a deeper understanding of a candidate’s background and character. Here is what:
1. What Does Your Father/Mother Do?
This tells me about the candidate’s background. I understand the importance of this, coming from a below-average income family myself. It shows their upbringing and values.
2. What Kind of Car Do You Drive?
This question reveals their priorities and financial decisions. It’s not just about the car, but about understanding their choices.
3. Where Do You Live?
This helps me understand their current life stage and priorities. Each living situation can tell a different story.
From my own experience of facing hardships and working hard in a working-class family, I value these insights.
My own experiences with hardship and striving for success in a working-class family have taught me the value of hashtag#attitude and hashtag#perseverance.
In the end, I believe in hashtag#hiring not just for skills, but for attitude and potential.
Am I right? Too old school?
