When I asked colleagues about the last book they had read, their response was simply “Facebook.” This interaction was a shock reminder of how digital distractions often overshadow traditional reading and learning.
In light of this, donating books to our company library can, hopefully, be a significant step towards fostering a culture of learning and knowledge sharing.
Here are four (4) reasons why this act aligns with our values as a learning organization and the Japanese concept of “hashtag#断舍离” (Danshari):
1. Fosters a Culture of hashtag#Learning:
By donating books, I hope to create an environment where knowledge sharing and continuous learning are valued. This supports the idea of our company as a learning organization, where employees are encouraged to expand their knowledge and skills.
2. Embraces the Philosophy of hashtag#断舍离:
This Japanese concept, which focuses on letting go of unnecessary items, is perfectly embodied in the act of donating books. It allows me to declutter my personal space while also giving my books a new life where they can be beneficial to others.
3. Encourages Diverse Perspectives:
Books from different genres (investment, running, business, biography & etc) and authors introduce a variety of perspectives and ideas. This diversity can spark creativity and innovation within our team, leading to more dynamic discussions and problem-solving approaches.
4. Resource Optimization
Instead of purchasing new books, employees can utilize the shared resources in the company library. This not only saves money but also promotes a more sustainable hashtag#esg approach to resource utilization.
