I evaluated a new intern yesterday.
I always start with the question, “What problems have you encountered in this internship so far?”
I ask this because an intern chooses a firm based on specific expectations.
They are here in hashtag#ktp to learn.
She responded, “There’s too much to learn and too many mistakes along the way.”
Now that I know this, I can be more deliberate about the tasks we assign her.
I then asked, “Would you prefer to do routine tasks like photocopying, binding, and arranging documents, or would you like to learn about auditing?”
She looked at me and nodded, indicating she wanted to learn.
I am excited to see how I can contribute to her growth and hopefully inspire and develop her skills.
Mentorship someone is a significant decision as it involves guiding, teaching, leading, helping, and building their skills.
It is rewarding to play that role.
