Last Friday, we gathered in the office for a laid-back celebration of our October birthdays. With fast food on the table and cool drinks in hand, the conversation soon shifted from fries and nuggets to something close to my heart – reading.
As we sat there enjoying the food, I shared with my colleagues a bit of our national treasure: our National Library.

I asked the room, “Has anyone visited the Johor Bahru library, the KL National Library, or even the ACCA library?”
The responses were mixed – some had fond memories, while others hadn’t visited a library in years.
This sparked me to share a personal story from 20 years ago when I first ordered books from Amazon. Back then, it was a novel experience, waiting for books to arrive after long shipping periods.
Fast forward to just before MCO, I made the switch to a Kindle, allowing me to carry an entire library in my pocket.
From there, I introduced them to Zinio – a subscription I use to read magazines online.
And then, of course, 微信读书, where I can read books in Chinese directly on my phone.
The beauty of technology, I told them, is how it’s transformed our access to knowledge.
But here’s the real kicker: our own National Library has now gone digital.
Malaysians can borrow and read thousands of books, magazines, and newspapers without even stepping outside their homes!
I urged everyone to register for their U-Pustaka ID. It’s such a fantastic initiative that’s made us proud Malaysians – where access to knowledge is just a click away.
In this fast-paced world, technology has evolved the way we learn, and it’s truly a great time to embrace this change.
So, if you haven’t yet, go ahead and sign up here: U-Pustaka ID. Let’s make the most of these digital resources!
