Let’s be honest—most bosses, including me, don’t have time for long, drawn-out explanations.

We don’t need the background details, the emotional buildup, or the dramatic pause before you get to the point.

What we do need?

A clear statement of the problem and a quick, practical solution.

When someone comes in and spends ten minutes explaining an issue only to finish with, “So boss, what should we do?” it’s frustrating.

Now, not only have I wasted time listening, but I also have to come up with the answer myself? No thanks.

It’s not that we don’t care or that we’re being arrogant. It’s about efficiency.

Time is limited, and every extra minute spent trying to understand a problem is a minute taken away from other critical tasks.

If you want your ideas to be heard—and actually respected—here’s how to do it right.

First, state the problem in one sentence. Skip the long backstory and just get to the point.

Next, offer two possible solutions.

Finally, recommend the best choice and explain why.

That’s all you need. If you can’t summarize the problem and solution in under a minute, you haven’t thought it through enough.

And if your boss has to dig the answer out of you, they’ll probably stop asking for your input altogether.

Some people love long discussions, brainstorming sessions, and deep dives into problems.

Sure, there’s a time and place for that.

But when a decision needs to be made quickly, bosses don’t need a detailed story … they need action.

So next time you talk to your boss, remember :
Keep it short,
Keep it sharp, and
Keep it useful.

At the end of the day, storytelling is for movies and books. Business runs on solutions.

If you can deliver yours quickly and clearly, you’ll always have your boss’s attention.

What do you think?
