Yesterday, I joined a webinar on SQL e-Invoicing.
Not just any webinar. Even as an approved auditor and licensed tax agent, I walked away feeling unsettled and uneasy.

Yes, I already know the fundamentals of e-Invoicing. But I didn’t join the session for theory.
I joined because I needed practical, hands-on exposure to how e-Invoice will actually work inside SQL software.
And what I saw… made me even more worried.
It was hosted by two stars—Song Liew, famously known as “颜值最高的 accountant in Malaysia,” and Meldy Ong, SQL’s elegant and sharp-witted representative.
Both looked like they came from a talk show set … but make no mistake, what they delivered wasn’t entertainment.
Phase 3 is coming. Fast.
This is not a future issue. It’s a now issue.
But too many SME bosses still think:
“Oh, e-Invoice? That’s just for accounts.”
“Just upgrade the invoice format, right?”
“Let the software vendor settle it.”
“Outsourced account lady will handle for me.”
No. No. No.
This is exactly the kind of mindset that will get businesses into trouble.
What many don’t realise is this:
E-Invoicing is not an accounting task.
It’s a complete operational transformation.
From your very first customer quotation, to collecting deposits, issuing delivery orders, credit notes, refunds, and after-sales documentation.
It all needs to be tracked, validated, and synced with LHDN’s MyInvois system.
One wrong step. One missing document. One untrained staff.
That’s all it takes to trigger non-compliance.
During the webinar, 高颜值 Song Liew broke down how SQL’s system integrates every part of the business into the e-Invoice framework.
Meldy Ong then walked us through real demos—showing exactly how SQL handles invoice, credit notes, down payments, returns, and more.
It was clear: if you’re not prepared, you’ll fall behind.
And if even someone like me … who breathes tax and audit every day, needs this kind of refresher, imagine what it’s like for businesses with zero awareness.
So here’s my urgent call to all taxpayers entering Phase 3:
- Train all your staff – Not just finance. Your sales, admin, logistics, even receptionist must understand their e-Invoice responsibilities.
- Map out your process – Most SMEs can’t even explain their full sales-to-payment cycle. How will you automate what you don’t understand?
- Upgrade your system – If you’re still using outdated tools or software that can’t link with MyInvois, you’re setting yourself up for failure.
Let’s face it … this isn’t just another LHDN update.
This is a new era of tax compliance, and the enforcement will be real.
The penalties, very real. (You must submit consolidated e invoice during the 6 months relaxation period)
The excuses? No longer accepted.
So thank you, Song and Meldy, for pulling back the curtain.
I just hope more businesses take this seriously … before it’s too late.
