Last week, Visalini Tampiturai, our IT intern at KTP, shared something on LinkedIn that made me pause and smile.

She had just attended an MIA webinar by Mr. Daryl Aw founder of Skybots, on how AI and RPA are reshaping the accounting and audit profession.
Her biggest takeaway?
Technology is not here to replace accountants. It’s here to empower them.
She didn’t just attend the webinar.
She absorbed the knowledge, reflected on it, and turned it into real, practical value.
That’s the kind of mindset we look for in an intern.
Here’s what she learned and how she put it to work:
• She treats ChatGPT like a team member. Instead of typing generic prompts, she assigns it a role like “audit partner” and provides clear context. The output she gets? Surprisingly accurate and useful.
• She explored how to simplify complex accounting standards using AI. Not to cut corners, but to build deeper understanding.
• She tested AI for tasks we all struggle with drafting emails, summarising SOPs, and even generating simple Excel VBA codes.
• She even explored ready-made chatbots designed for Malaysian accounting standards.
For an intern, that’s impressive.
For a hiring manager, that’s hopeful.
For the boss like me, I gave few tasks to reinforce her learning into real working world, that’s learning.
To those wondering if interns can add real value…yes, they can.
You just need the right ones. Curious, committed, and not afraid to explore.
