Earlier this year, I attended a photography workshop.
I’m just a hobby photographer, not a full-time one. But many of my friends earn their living behind the camera.

During that workshop, I heard something shocking from one of my friend
RM299 photoshoot packages is spreading across Malaysia like wildfire.
My friend said, “Bro, got China celebrity photographers flying in to KL, JB, Penang… RM299 per session.”
For RM299, you get:
Two makeup looks
Two outfit changes
Professional portraits
Sounds like a steal, right?
But here’s the real picture:
Local photographers charge around RM2,000 for proper 30-photo packages
Some friends’ businesses dropped by 70%
The worst part?
Some of these photographers operate on tourist visas. No legal work permits. But customers? Most don’t care price talks.
At first, I thought, “Wah, how are locals supposed to survive?”
But after thinking deeper. This is not just a photography problem.
Same thing happens in F&B, contractor, accounting, everywhere.
Last week, I shared this with my team in KTP the famous bottle of water story:
Supermarket : RM1.50
Café : RM2.00
Hotel : RM5.00
Airport : RM10.00
Same water. Different place. Different value.
Moral of the story?
It’s not always about lowering your price. Sometimes you need to change your position, change your mindset.
It reminds me of cafés in Malaysia.
Biggest mistake café owners make?
They spend big money renovating the place … nice design, cosy atmosphere.
But when things get tough, they panic…
“Should we offer RM9.90 set meal? Otherwise no customers.”
The moment you say that? You’ve already lost.
You’re competing on price, but your rent is premium, your overheads are premium … sure lose money.
Same with photographers. Same with accountants.
At KTP, I get this question often:
“Bro, online got RMx package, why your service so expensive?”
I smile. Because I know the water story.
Same water, different place, different value.
The real danger?
It’s not the RM299 photographers.
It’s not the RMx online x offers.
It’s your small mindset.
When you panic…
when you cut your price…
when you stop believing in your value…
that’s when you lose.
The market is tough.
But your mindset determines your outcome.
So here’s my question to you:
Are you stuck in price wars, or building real, long-term value?
Your mindset decides your direction.
Your positioning decides your survival.
真正打败你的,是你的小格局
格局决定出路
Choose wisely. Your格局, your call.
