A July 2025 study by Resume Templates (USA) shock me.
It report that 77% of Gen Z bring parent to at least one job interview.
This happened in my office many many time over the years
Parents waiting at our reception.
Scrolling phones while their child sits inside the interview room.

One mother even “scolded” our HR:
“Why the interview take so long ah?”
That day, I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.
Let me be honest.
I cannot accept this situation.
Not because I don’t love parents.
I am a parent myself.
But an interview is about you,
not your family.
An interview is your first real adult test.
If you cannot attend on your own,
How will you survive deadlines?
How will you face angry clients or IRB officers?
Confidence cannot be outsourced.
If your mother holds your hand into the office, you expect to hold my hands into client’s meeting?
I hire you, not your parents.
Your father won’t prepare audit working papers.
Your mother won’t explain e-invoice to SME bosses.
This is not a family package deal.
I don’t do buy-one-free-one.
Parents mean well.
I understand the love.
But let’s be clear …
A workplace is not kindergarten.
Your children is an ADULT
If you want respect in your career,
the first step is very simple.
Show up on your own.
Face the questions.
Handle the silence.
Take the result.
That’s how you grow.
Interview = Adult test.
Not parent day
So, LinkedIn friends, I ask you:
Have you seen parents tagging along for interviews?
Is this acceptable in 2025?
Or is it a red flag for employers like me?
