DIY Stamping

My golf buddy’s WhatsApp is every SME boss’s future problem.

Weekend morning.
My golfing friend texted me :
“Bro… my son got local uni offer already.”

I replied: “Congrats!”

Then he sent the next line:

“Uni ask me to stamp the admission agreement… what is this explanatory note? How to do?”
That happiness immediately turned into paperwork panic.

He was angry.
He was just blur.

So I told him:
“Bro, stamping is changing.

From 1 Jan 2026, Malaysia starts Stamp Duty Self-Assessment (STSDS).
And the old STAMPS portal ends 31 Dec 2025. Stamping moves to e-Duti Setem (MyTax).

In simple term …
You don’t wait for “LHDN counter officer decide for you” or “lawyer do for you”
You (or your agent) declare, assess, upload, pay stamp duty on digital plaform.

He replied:
“Walao… why everything also change under this government?”

I didn’t laugh.

Because SME bosses kena this all the time, not only for uni admission.

New office rental agreement.
Employment offer letter
Share transfer.
Business purchase.
Business contract.

All these big moments come with one small sentence:
“Please stamp this.”

Stamp duty is usually not the expensive part.
The expensive part is delay + distraction.
One late stamping can lead to penalty and LHDN tax audit.

In Malaysia, compliance doesn’t disturb you at 10am on Monday.
It comes on Saturday morning.

Question …
Which document always gives you headache … employment contract, rental agreement, loan, shareholders’ agreement, or something else?
