Every December, I used to withdraw cash, drive to BSN, queue up, and deposit before 31 December just to get the tax relief.
Very old school. Very Malaysia.
That method is gone. Everything is online now via myPTPTN.

But here is what most couples still miss.
Before YA 2025, husband and wife could each claim RM8,000 separately. That is RM16,000 combined for the family.
From YA 2025 onwards? Only ONE parent can claim. Maximum RM8,000 per household. Half the relief. Gone.
Also remember that the relief is based on net savings only.
Deposits minus withdrawals in the same year. Your brought-forward balance does not count.
Put in RM8,000. Withdraw RM5,000. You only claim RM3,000.
Many people still get this wrong every year.
The good news: relief is extended until YA 2027. Still worth doing, if you do it right. Decide who claims. Maximise that person’s net deposit. Do it before 31 December.
