SAAS is dead in AI era

Last week, my Finance Manager passed me an invoice.

It was for a professional technical knowledge platform we have used for years.

I looked at the amount and asked,
“Can we terminate this?”

She replied,
“Boss, cannot. Two-year contract. Ends in 2027.”

😅

Okay lor.
Contract signed already.
Pay.

Then I told her,
“Do you know our Claude Team subscription for 5 people, around USD20 per person per month, is still cheaper than this?”

That got me thinking.
For about USD100 per month, my team can ask AI to :

Explain technical issues,
Summarise guidelines,
Compare old and new rules,
Draft client advice,
Challenge our interpretation.

And now AI also has Memory, Instructions and Skills.

It can remember how we work and follow our preferred workflow.
Very powerful.

But there is one big problem.
Hallucination.

AI can give you the wrong answer in perfect English.

Very confident.
Very professional.
Very convincing.
And still wrong. 😂

In tax, I cannot tell LHDN,
“Sorry, Claude said one.”

So I still need the actual legislation, guideline, ruling and court case.

In the AI era, a searchable database is only the starting point.

Technical platforms must offer more than documents and keywords.

Most importantly, they must help users distinguish between:

what the law says,
what an expert thinks it means,
and what remains uncertain.

That is the real value.

Not merely helping us find information, but helping us trust, verify and apply it.

The future must be:

Verified knowledge + AI + Memory + workflow.

AI should make technical knowledge faster and easier to use.
It may be a USD20 AI subscription.

For my case?
Until 2027, I still have to pay both. 😭

Maybe the strongest technology in the AI era is not AI.
It is the two-year contract. 😂
