Last month, my IT team passed me a 10-page proposal.
“Boss, we want to migrate our website from Squarespace to Vercel Pro.”

We have been using Squarespace since Day 1 of our current website.

To be fair, Squarespace has served us well.
Simple.
Stable.
Easy to manage.

Then my IT team explained that our new website would be faster,
more flexible and
easier to develop in the future.

This is important because a company website is no longer just an online brochure.

It may be the first place where a potential client, employee or business partner meets us.

So far, I still faham.

Then I reached this sentence.
“Next.js front end deployed on Vercel, with Sanity as the headless CMS.”

At that moment, the website became dynamic.

But I became static boss.
My face was still reading the proposal.
My soul had already left the meeting.

😂😂😂

I nodded professionally.
My face said,
“Yes, this architecture makes sense.”

My brain said,
“Can somebody explain this using debit and credit?”

Then my IT team told me that the source code and version history would be maintained in a private GitHub repository.

This part I understood.

The source code will not be sitting inside one person’s laptop.

Every change can be tracked.

If something goes wrong,
the team can see what changed and restore an earlier version.

Suddenly, GitHub sounded less like an IT tool.
It sounded like internal control.
Now the auditor in me was alive again.

I went to Page 10.
The approval page.

But before signing, these were the questions that mattered to me.

What business problem are we solving?
What will improve for our clients and future employees?
How much will it cost?
Who will maintain it?
How are the source code, security and version history controlled?

I may not understand every line of code.
But I must understand the purpose, cost, risk and responsibility.

That is the difference between trusting your team and blindly approving a proposal.

A boss does not need to be the smartest person in every room.

The boss needs to build capable people,
ask the right business questions and
give them the opportunity to perform.

I signed the proposal.
Approval granted.
Expectation also granted.

Now I look forward to seeing our new website go live.

This week, the website (www.ktp.com.my) goes live in dynamic fashion.

The IT team is proud.

I am pround as well.
