2025 Game Plan

Last Friday, I gathered my colleagues for a strategic briefing to set the tone for 2025.

The agenda?

Three key priorities that are about to shake up the accounting and compliance landscape in Malaysia: audit exemptions, MBRS, and e-invoices.

Here’s a quick recap of what we covered and why you can’t afford to ignore these changes:

  1. Audit Exemption – Who’s In, Who’s Out?

Small companies often breathe a sigh of relief when they hear the words “audit exemption.”

But as always, the devil is in the details.

We discussed the eligibility criteria, including the RM3,000,000 revenue and asset threshold.

s2. MBRS – Filing or Failing?

The Malaysian Business Reporting System (MBRS) is no longer new, yet it continues to give many SMEs sleepless nights.

From directors’ reports to financial statements, MBRS is pushing businesses to adopt structured reporting standards.

  1. E-Invoices – The Clock is Ticking

With e-invoicing becoming mandatory starting 1 July 2025, this was the hottest topic of the session.

I stressed the urgency of moving from paper-based invoicing to a digital workflow.

Businesses that fail to adapt risk non-compliance penalties—and losing out on the operational efficiencies that come with automation.

The team left the room with “action plans” for each area, knowing 2025 is not the year to “wait and see.”

What’s your 2025 game plan? Share your thoughts if you need help navigating these changes!

Happy New Year.
