Last week, my HR Manager, Angela Fong, WhatsApped me a photo from GH Hospital 10pm.

Wah! Who kena accident this time?

I immediately called her.

Apparently, one of our colleagues had injured her eye while playing badminton with another colleague.

They were preparing for the upcoming Inter-Accounting Firm Games (IAFG).

I quickly checked on her condition.
Luckily, the injury was not too serious.

I left the rest to Angela as I know she will handle the situation professionally.

But honestly.
Sometimes I wonder.

Am I running an accounting firm or a sports injury rehabilitation centre? 😂

Over the years, I have collected quite a few incidents.

One colleague tumbled down 180 degree a small hill during our ATV outing.

Another colleague cried in pain because of her knee after completing a 21km half marathon.

One colleague sprained his ankle while trail walking with me.

Another colleague collapsed during a cycling ride on a hilly course under the hot sun.

And my personal favourite.

After one indoor spinning class.
FOUR colleagues went on MC the following day.

I thought I was promoting staff fitness.
Apparently, I was helping the medical industry generate revenue. 😂

Sometimes my HR Manager warm me not to cause any injury to my people

But despite all these incidents, I still encourage my colleagues to exercise.

Why?
Not because I am a physically active boss.

Because I don’t want my colleagues to spend their entire working lives sitting behind a desk.

We are accountants.

Our daily exercise?
Walk to the printer.
Walk to the pantry.
Walk to the toilet.

Then sit down for another eight hours.
Our fingers are very fit.

But the rest of our body?
Different story. 😂

During MCO, when everyone was stuck at home, I even bought skipping ropes for all my colleagues.

We organised skipping challenges.
Everyone jumped at home.
Including their boss.

Don’t underestimate this uncle.

My skipping rope skill is somewhere between decent amateur and self-proclaimed semi-pro.
1000 is the minimum count.

I have spent more than 30 years in this profession.

We must exercise safely.
Train according to our fitness.
Know our limits.
And I never force anyone to participate.

I don’t expect everyone to become an athlete.

I just hope they become a little healthier than yesterday.

As for Angela Fong.
Thank you for always taking care of our people.

Just one small request.

Next time you WhatsApp me a hospital photo, please send one sentence first.
“Boss, everyone is okay.”

My heart is already 57 years old lah. 😂

To the injured girl…
I am sorry your badminton career may be prematuredly ended.
