Most fresh graduates think convocation is the end. For her, it was just the beginning.

This week, my intern-turned-permanent colleague walked into my room with a small gift to me from her convocation and an audit file for signature.

I congratulated her on this milestone.
But I also asked a question she did not prepare for.

“What’s next? Will you take ACCA?”

She paused.

After submitting assignments, passing exams, and graduating with almost 4.0 CGPA… suddenly she had no plan.

So she asked for my opinion.

She came from a university in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia.
Not a big name.
But she has attitude … disciplined, humble, hardworking.

So I told her the truth.

In audit, tax, or accounting, a degree can get you a job.
But ACCA opens more doors :
Faster promotion
Higher salary
Opportunities overseas, especially Singapore

For someone with near 4.0 CGPA, ACCA is not impossible.
Challenging, yes.
But she has the discipline.

Having ACCA behind your name levels the playing field.

So I told her:

“If you are below 30, collect as many letters after your name as you can.
If you can study, study.
With your 4.0 results, you should clear ACCA within two years.
Later, family and responsibilities will make it harder.”

I shared my own path.

I hope she does.

Because convocation is not the final chapter.
It is just page one.
Degrees open the gate.
