“Boss, can we get the whole office to make our own Chinese New Year decorations?”
That was my HR manager Angela Fong ’s idea.
No budget request.
No formal event.
Just red paper, scissors, and
whoever was free between deadlines.

Two weeks ago, we pushed aside some files and gathered around the tables.
At first, it looked like a “small thing”.
Paper folding.
A few laughs.
Some people trying to shape the flower until it finally “becomes something”.
Then I noticed something more important.
The office sound changed.
Instead of only keyboard typing,
there was laughter.
Departments that normally only communicate through email were suddenly talking face to face.
One colleague taught another how to fold the petals patiently.
Another group discussed where to place the decorations so it looked balanced.
No KPI.
No agenda.
But the connection was real.
Today, those handmade pieces are still hanging around our office.
They are not perfect.
But every time I walk past,
I can still “see” that afternoon.
People helping each other.
People talking.
People smiling.
That day reminded me of a leadership lesson many SME bosses forget:
Culture is not built only during big annual dinner or outdoor bonding event.
Culture is built on normal working days.
Through small shared moments that cost almost nothing, but make people feel they belong.
Low cost.
Low disruption.
High connection.
Not every strong team is built through grand events.
Some are built quietly, one small activity at a time.
