Sounds very drama.
But recently, there was such a story in the news.

A lady found someone online to help her handle tax matters.

Maybe at first, she only thought it was convenient.

Someone said can help her settle.
Someone said can help her submit.
Someone said she no need to headache.

So, she gave her MyTax login details to that person.

Many people may think like this.
“Tax filing only mah.”
“Give password only mah.”
“He just help me click submit only mah.”

The problem is, MyTax password is not an ordinary password.

Not WiFi password.
Not Netflix password.
Not PC password.

It is your tax identity.

Later, both sides could not agree over the RM12,200 handling fee.
The lady refused to pay.

Then the whole thing started to turn ugly.
According to the report, her MyTax information was suspected to have been quietly changed.

The scariest part was this.

Her husband’s name later appeared with almost RM395,000 tax owing.

Imagine this.

One day you login to MyTax.
You only want to check your tax position.
Suddenly, you see one amount you are totally not prepared for.
RM394,965.

At that moment, it is not just angry.
It is cold sweat.

Because you know you did not fill it.
You know those are not your numbers.
You know something is not right.

But inside the system, the record is already there.

Then the real trouble begins.
You need to make police report.
You need to explain.
You need to deal with LHDN.
You need to prepare documents.
You need to prove that someone changed your information.
You need to prove those numbers are not your real tax position.

Once a password is given out, the problem may not happen on the same day.

The real damage comes slowly after that.

Time is burnt.
Energy is burnt.
Professional fees are burnt.
Trust is also burnt.

So this post is not to teach anyone how to do tax filing.

Just a simple reminder.

MyTax information, don’t simply share.

Don’t screenshot and send everywhere.
Don’t WhatsApp password to strangers.
Don’t give login details to people you don’t really know online.
Don’t hand over everything just because someone says, “I help you settle.”

Tax filing can be handled by someone else.

But your MyTax password, you must protect yourself.

Some doors, once opened wrongly, are very hard to close back.
